ALLEN PREMIUM 3-BIKE HITCH MOUNT RACK (1.25 OR 2-INCH RECEIVER)

Allen Premium 3-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (1.25 or 2-Inch Receiver)

Nice Sturdy Unit
Bought this bike rack to use on the back of our class c motorhome. The rack was very easy to assemble. I noticed right away the construction was superior to other racks I have looked at (this is a heavy rack) with all parts fitted and finished nicely. Look forward to many miles of use with this unit!

Allen 3-Bike Premium
She's sturdy. We drove 490 miles with it this weekend and it was great.
Easy installation, quick release allows it to fold down easily, and another quick release allows it to tilt out of the way for liftgate access.
Very satisfied.

About Allen Bike Racks:
In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family's bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities.

Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns over three-dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.

ALLEN DELUXE 3-BIKE HITCH MOUNT RACK (1.25 OR 2-INCH RECEIVER)

Allen Deluxe 3-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (1.25 or 2-Inch Receiver)

Worked great with a 2" receiver
I bought this rack from amazon for a 3,500 mile cross country trip, and it held up great. I was carrying two heavy beach cruisers and a bike trailer, and the rack was solid for most of the trip. At one point I noticed a little side to side wobble, but it was only because the bolt thru the rack had loosened. After tightening it, it was solid again. I was most impressed with how the rack held up in the tilted position, as we were sleeping in the back of the truck and left it in the down position, fully loaded, for approx ten hours a day. The only thing I didn't like was that, on my truck, the rack blocked the access to crank down the spare tire, and I had to take the bikes and the rack off the truck after a blow out. I would imagine this would be the case with any brand of rack, however.

All in all, I was very pleased with the product and the price. Some people have mentioned that the rack wobbled, but I have a feeling that it was an issue with installation, or perhaps the fit is different with the 1 1/4" hitch. It fit great with my 2" hitch.

Great Rack!
We are very satisfied with this product. It worked very well for a cross country trip. It's durable and easy enough to attach and detach. The price was fair as well.

Thank you Allen for a product that does what you say it does!
I recently moved from Chicago to San Diego - a long 2300 mile drive - and I wanted to bring my 3 bikes back with me. One, a mountain bike, and the other two beach cruisers. There was a lot of weight on the rack, but it held strong the entire way. I was admittedly nervous about the rack before I started, but it held strong and true, even when dealing with elements (wind, rain, and even dust storms).

I was very happy with the performance of the rack as well as the locking hitch pin that I bought separately. Both get two big thumbs up!

Bike hitch
The packaged arrived with out any problems. The instruction to set it up were easy enough. I just had to go buy a wrench and socket big enough to secure the hitch in the tow slot. I timed myself it only takes about 5-10 minutes to attach hitch to car and load two bikes on this rack. There is minimal swaying on the road. Works great for occasional needs to go to the park and ride the bikes. The pins are easy to use. The item it self is sturdy as well. Would reccommend to buy. Great cost compared to other bike hitches I have seen.

Is a very good rack mount but needs to be improve
This product is made from a high quality material, versatile on holding the bikes, good looking and the price is even better but in my opinion needs to be improved to became a five star one; it doesn't fit properly in the std receiver and keeps moving too much on the road.
I would sugest the designers put some device that helps to fit better in between the std receivers and the mount rack to avoid excesive movement.

Ruben from DR.

ALLEN DELUXE 3-BIKE SPARE TIRE MOUNT RACK

Allen Deluxe 3-Bike Spare Tire Mount Rack

Works great!
Installs quickly. Perfect gift for my husband and his Jeep. His trailer hitch is free. It doesn't rub the paint or show any signs it will...and it was a great price! Our only tip - tighten and then tighten again after you put the bikes on.

Sturdy, but watch out that you don't scratch your car or bike!
This rack is much sturdier than I would have guessed for something that just hooks over the tire. As others have mentioned, you want to be careful that the metal part of the rack that rests on the tire doesn't directly touch the metal hub cap otherwise there will be scratches. I also discovered that there are rubber caps that cover the ends of the tubes of the rack. My bike was resting against that rubber cap - can't be helped if you put the bike on the holder closest to the tire. When I got to my destination, the rubber cap was almost worn through and falling off. Once it falls off, the end of the tube will start scratching the bike and anything else it comes into contact with for that matter. Solution: I wrapped a towel around the the part of the rack that rests on the tire and also around the the end of the tube where the bike hits. Problem solved. Bottom line, for the price, this is a great rack that gets the job done. If you want something that doesn't take as much TLC, you'll probably spend a lot more money.

Great Purchase
Bought this bike rack with carrying 3 adult bikes in mind however only 2 will fit without possible damage by squeezing in a 3rd adult bike. Will probably take a child's bike as the 3rd. Rack is very easy to install on and remove from the spare tire of our 2004 Jeep Liberty. Rack folds up enough to allow storage inside the Jeep all the time. Have taken a couple of 60 mile trips with no problems. Would have given 5 stars if a) rack could actually fit 3 adult bikes easily and b) a strap or bungie cord had been supplied to hold the bikes against the bottom of the rack. Bikes swing away from bottom of rack when driving over rough road (and speed bumps).

Fabulous Bike rack!
This product is a gem! Just used it for the first time this weekend to take the bikes on a camping trip and it was outstanding. Easy to put on the tracker and super sturdy all the way there and home. I would recommend this procuct to anyone.

It Works After Slight Modification
I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler with a 31" spare tire. This bike rack works well for me after I made a few modifications. All I really did was buy a piece of foam pipe insulation and wrapped a few areas of the rack with the insulation and put some zip ties to keep it there. The bikes are going to rub on the carrier, and using the foam insulation will protect them. Once I did that, the carrier is just fine.

ALLEN 102S PREMIUM 2-BIKE TRUNK MOUNT RACK

Allen 102S Premium 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack

Excellent, worth the bucks!
Item well made. At first does not seem to be capable to hold 2 bikes (first experience with bike rack), however it worked perfectly. Half hour ride to a local park with no problem.

NOTE: Fits perfectly sedans with spoiler, I own an Elantra 08 model.

TIP: use a small towel around the spoiler or those parts with direct contact with the paint.

Great rack.
I've only used this rack once so far and it was to transport my bike on a 40 minute drive to and from a ride. It was fairly easy to put on and I didn't notice any damage to my car when I took it off.

It is definetly an improvement over folding down my backseat, taking off the front wheel of my bike and awkwardly loading the bike into my trunk!

I have only used it with one bike and it is a women's bike. I didn't buy the adapter thingy, but the crossbar on my bike is fairly straight unlike some women's bikes.

I would recommend this to the casual user, good value for the money. I just hope it is durable enough to last a couple years.

Very Pleased
Even though the box said it wouldn't work for my car it does! It's very sturdy and I was not nervous about my bike falling off at all. I have not put two bikes on it yet but I don't see the extra bike making much of a difference.

Worked As Pomised, Well Made
I had never used a bike rack before. My prior cars all had fold down seats. I'm also a nut about my car's appearance so I've always been concerned about any scratches a bike rack might leave. First off as I've seen on other reviews there is an extensive list of cars the bike rack will fit on and luckily my Acura TL was on the list. You may want to check the Allen website prior to purchasing to be sure. The box also says it installs in minutes. I suppose that my be true the next time around but doing this the first time it was 20-30. My car does not have accessable metal under the bumper so I had to rearrange the bottom straps as directed to connect under the trunk lip and that worked fine. I washed the car prior to attaching and I see where that makes sense since the padding will be right on the paint. Overall, I'm very pleased with the fit and had no issues with my bike or car. I was a little concerned that the brackets that connect from the strap to the car are painted metal. However, I didn't see that they slid or did any damage. The only area there were some marks were on the inside lip of the trunk from the brackets down there. That's not visable from outside so not really a problem. One thing you will want to purchase are some velcro straps. They are cheap and hold the front tire in place so it doesn't swing around. You can also use it to stop the back wheel from spinning which could be distracting. One final thing. I made sure to remove my kickstand prior to taking off as I could imagine that popping open on the drive and wreaking havoc on the back of my car.

Sturdy and Easy to Use
I received this as a gift over a year ago, and have been holding off on writing a review until I've had some time to use it. I am incredibly pleased with the quality and ease of use with this product. It's very intuitive, and every time I put it on my trunk it's literally a 5-10 minute process, usually closer to 5.

The four straps give it enough stability that I haven't worried about it coming off my trunk. It's never damaged the paint or finish of my car (although an improperly mounted bike has done that). At one time I had a lighter bike mounted to the back and watched as it tilted outward in the wind on the freeway. I wasn't worried that the rack would come off, but I did realize the importance of securing the bike frame to the rack via a bungee cord or two.

As I have a ladies' bike, I also got the adapter tension bar that Allen sells, although I wouldn't say you'd struggle without it. Really you just need a couple bungee cords to hold the front wheel straight so it doesn't scrape your car.

ALLEN DELUXE 2-BIKE TRUNK MOUNT RACK

Allen Deluxe 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack

Dissapointed
This product works great as long as you go under 45mph in your car. Ideal for city life. It's easy to put on and take off which beats dissembling your bike to put it in the trunk. It was fine when I had it for the first couple of months driving around the city to go the trails.

However, I drove 5 hours each way to go on a biking trip, mostly doing about 70+ mph. The bike ended up scratching my bumper pretty bad as it was flying around. Furthermore, the rubber wheels of the rack that sit on the trunk ended up burning a hole through my paint as it shifted back and forth from the force of the bike flying back and forth. I even stopped 4 times to tighten everything down as much as possible!!! I'm glad I have an older car so this doesn't matter so much to me, but I can't imagine the surprise people are getting on their new to 1-5 year old vehicles!! People were staring, and no one followed within 300ft of my car.

The top of my trunk has two holes straight down to the metal and the bumper has skid marks/scratches all over it. Don't be cheap and get yourself a trailer hitch installed. Then purchase the bike racks that fit into those that keep the bike away from your car and the product off the paint!!!

Sturdy and Simple
Just completed 1000 miles on I-95 with my Trek on the rack and the Allen Deluxe performed very well -- no jiggles, no adjustments, it held firm at 70 mph. Securely mounted to the rear of my Volvo and I looped a bungee cord around the tires to prevent spinning and away we went. Put a sock on your pedal and not a scratch on the bumper either. Very easy to take off and stowe in the trunk when we stopped overnight. Can't beat the value for the money with this one!

Good Bike Rack
The bike rack has worked well for me. I've taken several multiple hour trips on the highway and through construction zones (w/2 bikes) without any problems. The bottom bar rests right on my license plate so obstructing it from view, so thats not ideal. In general I'm very satisfied.

Quality is oozing from this bike carrier
After researching several trunk-mounted bike carriers, I settled on this one based on the reviews and it's reasonable price ( at Walmart). It certainly has not disappointed.

I own a 2008 Honda Accord and this product fits perfectly. If you're unsure of whether or not this model will fit your vehicle, there is a comprehensive breakdown on the back of the box that will show you which vehicles it will fit. I use this carrier to transport a Schwinn road bike that weighs approximately 30 pounds and I couldn't ask for a better product. The quality of this carrier is top-notch and it takes maybe 2 minutes to mount.

Positives:

Quality Construction - I can't stress this aspect enough. Every piece of this bike rack is top-notch.
Easy to mount - Even the first time was simple and took less than 3 minutes.
Stability - I've driven 75 mph with my bike mounted and have had complete confidence in the stability of this rack. Even on a bumpy road I have no worries.
Value - For only , you'll be hard-pressed to find a better deal.

Negative:

This is true of most any bike carrier, but it could be easily stolen. Whenever I'm riding, I simply put inside my trunk. Not a big deal as it only takes a few minutes to re-mount.

Tips:

*As several people have mentioned, this bike rack will not fit all bikes. This is common of most bike carriers. If your bike does not have a horizontal bar on the frame, you will need an adapter to mount your bike.

*If you're mounting two bikes, be sure to make the dual straps on the trunk of your car as long as possible. This will help keep your bikes from bumping into the back of your vehicle.

Great bike rack - loved that it came fully assembled
The bike rack came fully assembled with very clear directions on attaching it to the car. It seems very sturdy and managed to hold up for a sixty mile stretch of highway and a heavy storm without anything coming loose.

It holds one bike easily (mine is a women's bike so I had to turn the "cradles" inward to hold the bike) and there is plenty of room for the second bike.

One thing to note - it's sturdy enough for one relatively heavy bike on the back of a honda accord where the straps are almost parallel to the road. I wouldn't recommend using it for two bikes on a sedan with a flat trunk though... I could be wrong but I don't think there's enough counter-balance for that to work. On the back of a hatchback I think it would be no problem to have two bikes, but with a flat trunk I don't think it's the best idea.

I can highly recommend this. I thought it was going to be far flimsier for the price. Great deal, great design, very sturdy.

ALLEN TENSION BAR BICYCLE CROSS-BAR ADAPTOR

Allen Tension Bar Bicycle Cross-Bar Adaptor

You get what you pay for...
I bought this thinking that this will help me solve the problem of taking my daughter's bike everywhere (a woman's bike)... Oh boy, was I SO WRONG...

Before I tell you what happened, I do admit that this is a pretty easy set up and it seems sturdy enough - but it all end there.

As it happened, we are going for a cycle ride and I strapped both of our bicycles safely and correctly on the rack and went. Not far from the house, the retainer pin didn't managed to keep hold of the bike thus the quick release pins gave way... the result of the bike's big thump on the road and when you are driving it will not be an option to just stop right away resulting the need to dragged the bike to a safe place to park and sort the problem.

When I stopped and looked at the bar itself, I've found out that the retainer pin just broke in half. THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLAW in the design. Both the retainer and the quick release pins are not sturdy enough to carry the weight of the bike (even though it is a light bike) and I am driving in a pretty safe speed, this does not help with the flaw.

This cause the problem for my daughter's bike and I am so glad that it didn't cause a major accident. This might happen...

LIKE I SAID,THIS IS A FLAW IN THEIR PRODUCT.

I would not be buying this product again. Next time, I would think before I buy cheap stuff as you get what you pay for...

great help!
Great for girls bikes and other bikes with out horizontal cross bar. Keeps bike low on rack so you can see with your rear view mirror. Super easy to use and worth the $$

strong and simple
purchased 1 and then a 2nd one for both out bikes, makes it much easier to mount our curved frame bikes on bike rack, very simple to use on and off in seconds, no trouble stratching frame

Cool item
Have a woman's bike that did not fit or work on my bike rack. The Allen Tension bar did the trick. It works great! Not to hard to attach to the bike. Would recommend this device.

Good item
This bar fits perfectly my wife's bike, and is indispensable in order to fit the bike on a bike rack.

About Allen
About Allen Bike Racks

Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts, garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Today, the company owns more than three dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.
