I do not recommend this product
When I first went to assemble the two pieces to make a whole basket, the tubes going from one piece (male) into the other (female) did not fit. Further investigation showed that the tubing on the female side was bent (not from shipping), and to make it work, I had to spend about 1/2 hour re-opening the tubes.

After finally putting the basket together, it came time to mount it on the roof of my 2008 Highlander. Keep in mind, before I bought this rack I contacted the company to inqire whether or not it would fit my car. I was told that yes, it had universal fittings so it would fit all car roof racks.

Well it did have universal fittings, but they were so simplistic that I had to spend 1 1/2 days, and trips back and forth to hardware stores, to make it work. The reason, even when the clamps were tightened as tight as they would go, the rack slid back and forth and would not tighten firmly.

To make it work (and I never did get it "tight"), I had to use a metal cutting saw to cut parts of it away, put jerryrigged blocks between the basket and the crossbar, and tape it tightly to the crossbar.

These problems would have been more acceptable if I had paid half as much. I can live with the imperfections in the tubes (since at this price I didn't expect the quality of a Thule or a Yakima), but to have to spend the time and money to make this product safe to travel on my roof at up to 80 miles per hour, is unaccepable.

The only way I would recommend this product to anyone is if Lund puts a truly universal clamping system with it that is uncomplicated and easy to understand. Otherwise, be prepared to use extraordinary measures to safely attach it to your roof.

awesome box
the skybox arrived quickly and was installed in less than 5mn. It's amazing how much stuff can be put in it. It is robust, silent (even at 70+ mph), and I didn't feel any drag or loss of stability with transverse winds. I really like the net and carpet that came with it as they are really useful to maintain kids toys in place, or my climbing gear.
I would recommend it again and again!

Not WATERPROOF
I received this product and one of the seams was ripped out. Contacted the seller and got great support, they sent out a replacement carrier immediately. Received the second one and after the first big storm I went through, opened up the carrier to find it filled with water. Drained it and found holes in the seams where the stitches were located on the seams. If they simply taped the seams this would not be a problem. Don't recommend this item if you are looking for something waterproof.

Useful product to hang your cargo box on
This is a pretty simple piece of hardware. It consists of three parts: a round bar, and two hangers that bolt into studs. I love what it does for your cargo box. I have a small car and use my cargo box for various trips. But having the hanger allows me to have it off my car most of the time and have it securely stored out of the way. It saves me gas to not always be driving around with my cargo box.

I had the same problem in that the Yakima screws broke off while ratcheting them into the studs. I went to a local hardware store with a good selection of hardware and found virtually identical replacement screws. Only thing is they weren't painted black. So I put some touch up black paint on the heads of the bolts and no one can tell the difference.

I suppose you might be able to make your own out of a yakima bar and parts from the hardware store but if you're time is worth money, its just easier to buy this little kit. You do need to know how to find studs ( usually 16inches on center), pre-drill pilot holes, and use a ratchet set to screw in the bolts though.

Even with all that I am very pleased with this product.

Works as advertised.
Nothing fancy here, the Cargo Box Hanger works as advertised. It's a little expensive so I first went to Home Depot to see if I could build something cheaper. Well, I could have struggled with odds and ends to make something but I would not have looked as nice or been as sturdy. This thing is sturdy.

One problem, the supplied screws both broke off in the wall despite a pre-drilling and using a slow drill speed. Yakima needs to provide sturdier screws. The holes for the screws do not allow for a much larger diameter screw either.

underbuilt, prone to failure.
this product, while a great concept is poorly executed.

the steel tubing for the main support beam is too thin walled, dimensionally too small and doesn't extend far enough into the receiver.

this results in high stress loads at the pin, top of tube inside the receiver and bottom of tube at insertion end of receiver.

in addition, the crossmembers are made of thin folded sheet steel, and any torsional load will eventually cause a stress fatigue failure at the weakest point. I know, because this happened to me 300 miles from home.

do not buy this product if you are going to use it with any significant loads. you can build a better one, cheaper, from scrap steel tubing.

Cargo Carrier
Takes some thought to construct. This is a very handy item. I was borroeing one for several years until I found this kit. I loaded this up to drive my daughter to school. And have hauled snowblowers frequently.
Very handy item if you have a hitch but not a pickup truck.
